Role Overview

The Head of Finance will establish, lead and build Infinity's finance function. Working closely with the CEO, Leadership Team and Board of Directors, the role is pivotal in shaping both financial and non-financial strategy, ensuring strong financial control, and enabling data-driven decision-making. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, is comfortable working autonomously, and enjoys building processes from inception.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Partner with the CEO, Leadership Team and Board to define and execute financial strategy and support wider organisational strategy.
  • Provide financial insights to support business growth, fundraising and operational decisions.
  • Support stakeholder relations, including board reporting and fundraising activities.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
  • Own budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning.
  • Monitor performance against budgets and deliver variance analysis.
  • Identify risks and opportunities to optimise financial performance.
  • Develop business reporting including KPIs and management dashboards.
  • Produce financial models to support strategic decisions and funding opportunities.
Financial Control & Compliance
  • Implement scalable finance systems, processes, controls, tools and automation.
  • Establish policies, procedures and reporting frameworks.
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial data.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital and liquidity planning.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Manage external auditors, accountants and tax advisers.
  • Oversee payroll, VAT and regulatory filings.
  • Support the Board on financial and company governance matters.
  • Establish internal controls and governance, including maintaining the corporate risk register.
  • Monitor financial, commercial and operational risks.
  • Help establish governance frameworks, decision rights and approval processes.
Funding, Grants & Commercial
  • Lead financial aspects of grant applications and funding bids.
  • Manage grant claims and ensure compliance with funding conditions.
  • Develop processes for grant assurance and audit readiness.
  • Support commercial contract reviews, negotiations and decisions.
  • Monitor project profitability and funding utilisation.
  • Develop approaches for sustainable revenue generation.
  • Evaluate pricing strategies, cost structure and unit economics.
  • Assess financial implications of new products, markets or partnerships.
Team & Function Development
  • Design and implement the company's first finance operating model.
  • Build and lead the finance function as the company grows, identifying future capability requirements.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency and continuous improvement.
  • Support wider organisational capability around financial management.
Stakeholder Management
  • Work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors and Guarantors.
  • Build effective relationships with universities, government funders and industry partners.
  • Act as the principal finance contact for auditors, banks, funders and professional advisers.
  • Present financial information clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in a Head of Finance or similar senior role.
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of financial risk, controls, reporting and compliance.
  • Comfortable working both strategically and hands-on.
Desirable
  • Experience supporting fundraising or working with investors.
  • Exposure to SaaS, tech or scaling businesses.
  • Experience implementing finance systems (Sage, Xero, NetSuite etc.).
  • Commercial mindset with strong influencing skills.
