Job summary

Coventry Building Society seeks a Head of Enterprise Controls to lead 1LoD risk, controls and governance across the business. Based in Coventry or Manchester, you will build and strengthen the control environment to support growth while protecting customers.

You will oversee risk culture, incident and continuity frameworks, and provide insight to executives and the Board, partnering with senior stakeholders to drive effective non-financial risk management in a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading enterprise controls, first line risk, governance or operational risk functions within a large regulated banking/financial services organisation.
• Proven group-wide or enterprise-level leadership experience, including leading managers and specialist teams.
• Strong understanding of retail banking, savings and lending products with non-financial risk frameworks.
• Experience designing, implementing and enhancing enterprise control frameworks and assurance programmes.
• Executive Committee/Board-level communication and reporting experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide first line risk and control frameworks, governance and assurance activities.
• Oversee 1st Line managers and teams responsible for customer outcomes testing, quality assurance and control testing.
• Own and enhance the Group Operational Resilience, incident and business continuity frameworks.
• Monitor risk appetite, control performance, emerging risks and assurance outcomes.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to foster a strong risk-aware culture and effective non-financial risk management.
• Deliver high-quality insight and assurance to Executive and Board Committees, ensuring issues are escalated and remediated.
