About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of English to lead the English Department at a successful secondary school in Bushey. This is a great opportunity for a strong leader to shape teaching and learning, drive student outcomes, and contribute to whole-school improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the English Department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning
• Develop and implement an engaging, rigorous curriculum across Key Stages 3–5
• Support and mentor staff within the department, fostering continuous improvement
• Monitor pupil progress and use data to drive targeted intervention and excellence
• Contribute to school leadership and the wider curriculum development
• Promote a love of literature and language throughout the school
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree
• Substantial experience teaching English at Key Stage 3 and 4 (Key Stage 5 desirable)
• Proven leadership or middle management experience in a secondary setting
• Strong knowledge of the English curriculum and assessment frameworks
• Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
• A passion for English education and a commitment to student progress
