Job summary

Kier Group seeks a Head of Engineering for the STEP Fusion Programme, based in Culham / West Burton with hybrid work and programme travel. You will lead engineering delivery for IPT4 Tokamak Complex and Plant Integration, guiding multidisciplinary teams to design and build a prototype fusion energy plant.

You will oversee design activities across RIBA Stages 1–4, aligning with the Design Authority and IPT leadership. A major infrastructure, regulated project background is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline
• Chartered Engineer with ICE membership
• Senior leadership experience on major infrastructure, nuclear, defence, energy or regulated projects
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design across concept to developed design stages (RIBA 1-4)

Responsibilities

• Lead IPT4 engineering organisation and advise IPT4 Director on strategy, priorities, performance and risks
• Deliver integrated engineering designs for Tokamak Complex buildings, heavy civil structures, waste-management facilities, and building systems
• Integrate civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, control, process and building-services into a single coordinated design
• Manage interfaces with other IPTs, the Design Authority and site development teams; maintain weekly liaison with Chief Architect Engineer and Civil Engineering Manager
• Ensure engineering solutions are safe, compliant, buildable, operable and maintainable while preserving design intent and engineering excellence
