Job summary

Accelero is seeking a Head of Engineering for a Newcastle-based embedded hardware/software function. You will take full ownership of an engineering department spanning firmware, hardware, and application software, setting the technical direction and delivering across the full lifecycle.

You will lead a 15-person team, decide on architecture, manage delivery timelines, and collaborate with product and leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team across hardware and software.
• Hands-on embedded hardware/firmware experience is essential.
• Proven ability to balance technical credibility with people and delivery leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a 15-person engineering team across hardware and software.
• Own technical strategy and architecture across embedded and application layers.
• Manage resourcing, delivery timelines, and engineering best practices.
• Act as a bridge between engineering, product, and senior leadership.
• Mentor and upskill engineers, embedding strong technical standards.
• Stay close to technical detail to guide design decisions and unblock teams.
