Role Overview

As the Head of Engineering, you will lead the transformation of the engineering function within Alliance Healthcare UK. This includes developing, implementing, and managing a cohesive engineering strategy that enhances technical capabilities and optimizes asset and vendor management.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership in Technical Performance: Oversee technical and asset performance across the AH UK network, ensuring effective delivery of equipment performance, managing the National FM team, executing capital projects, and empowering service centre engineering teams.
  2. Team Development: Lead the Birmingham CLC engineering team, foster relationships with third-party engineering teams, and create a strategic three-year operational masterplan.
  3. Relationship Management: Build internal relationships to improve effectiveness and automation, collaborate with procurement on vendor management, and engage with divisions for strategic alignment.
  4. Engineering Masterplan: Develop and execute the engineering/technical masterplan focusing on automation, equipment standards, and CAPEX projects.
  5. Team Empowerment: Oversee all engineering teams across UK service centres, ensuring technical competency.
  6. Automation Optimization: Manage automation systems to ensure high asset performance and cost efficiencies.
  7. KPI Ownership: Responsible for automation engineering KPIs aligning with organizational goals.
Additional Details
  • Travel: 50%, UK-wide and international
  • Work Arrangement: Remote
  • Shift Hours: 37.5 hours/week with flexibility
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong leadership in technical operations, managing assets and teams across locations
  • Proven vendor management and customer satisfaction skills
  • Results-oriented with adaptability to sector changes
  • Experience in a matrix organization
  • Graduate degree required; higher qualifications preferred
  • Experience in multi-site/multinational supply chains or 3PL operations
  • Engineering qualification (Mechanical or Electrical) preferred
  • Fluency in English; additional languages advantageous
  • Leadership, communication, and customer-facing skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with a commercial approach to sourcing and negotiations
