About Us

Zanda is a fast-growing SaaS Healthtech startup with a mission to innovate and deliver impactful solutions. We value Growth, Impact, Reliability, and Teamwork and are looking for a Head of Engineering who embodies these core values. As we scale, we need a leader who can balance technical strategy with people leadership, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.

The Role

As a Head of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our engineering team to deliver high-quality features, enhancements, and systems improvements. You’ll focus on supporting your team to achieve departmental goals while fostering a culture of growth, experimentation, and effective performance management.

This role is ideal for someone with a growth mindset, a passion for modern technology, and a balance of technical expertise and people leadership skills. You’ll be challenged to guide the team through change, streamline processes, and make strategic decisions that align with our business goals.

You’re Excited to:

  • People Leadership: Support and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Performance Management: Implement effective performance metrics and guide the team to deliver consistent, high-quality results.
  • Technical Strategy: Contribute to technical decisions, ensuring the right balance between feature development and system improvements.
  • Innovation: Encourage experimentation with modern tools and technologies, including AI, to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Remote Leadership: Navigate the challenges of remote work, using async communication effectively and knowing when to prioritize meetings.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering Team Leads, Product, and other stakeholders to align on priorities and deliver impactful solutions.

What Success Looks Like

  • The engineering team operates smoothly, delivering features and enhancements consistently and efficiently.
  • Systems are reliable, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
  • The team feels supported, motivated, and empowered to innovate.
  • Effective use of modern tools and technologies to streamline workflows and improve productivity.
  • Clear performance metrics are in place, and the team is held accountable in a positive, growth-oriented way.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Experience:
  • 3+ years in software development and a few years of experience in a leadership role (e.g., Tech Lead, Head of Engineering, etc).
  • Experience in a SaaS startup environment preferred (company size: 100-250 headcount).
  • Proven track record of remote leadership and async communication.
  • Skills:
  • Strong technical background with the ability to guide technical decisions and understand competing solutions.
  • Business-minded, with a strategic approach to balancing feature development and system improvements.
  • Experience in change management and guiding teams through transitions.
  • Personality Traits:
  • Supportive leader who empowers teams to find the right outcomes.
  • Growth mindset with a passion for modern technology and innovation.
  • Ability to facilitate consensus and encourage diverse perspectives.
  • Positive attitude toward our tech stack (even if not 100% experienced with it).

Nice-to-Have

  • Hands-on experience with our tech stack (.Net, React & Postgres) or similar technologies.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent technical education.
  • Experience creating learning opportunities and fostering a developer-focused culture.

Challenges You’ll Tackle

  • Guiding the team through change and ensuring smooth transitions.
  • Balancing efficiency with autonomy, avoiding micromanagement.
  • Assisting with strategic decisions around application and infrastructure design.
  • Improving performance management and implementing practical metrics.

Why Join Us?

  • Innovative Culture: Be part of a team that embraces experimentation and cutting-edge technology.
  • Impact: Play a key role in shaping the future of our product and engineering team.
  • Flexibility: Work remotely with a team that values work-life balance and async collaboration.
  • Room for Growth: This role offers significant opportunities, development and career advancement for the right person.

Why you’ll LOVE working at Zanda Health…

When you join Zanda Health, you’ll benefit from perks like;

Work from Anywhere

There are no offices at Zanda Health as we’ve been a distributed team long before everyone else caught on. We look for the best people around the world – not just those who live within a 1 hour commute. If you like working from home, or really from anywhere, you’ll find a bunch of like-minded people here.

There’s no sense in working all the time – we believe everyone needs balance and we want you to have enough time to do other things that enrich your life. We offer all of our permanent team members 30 days of paid time off and we expect you to take it.

Need to get the kids to school or want to do a gym class in the middle of the day? No problem. We need you to be available for some agreed core hours to work with your colleagues and cover our service requirements, but other than that your time is yours.

We aim to work with the best people – wherever and whoever they are. We know this comes at a business cost, but we consider this an investment in the company’s future. We offer competitive pay and we want all team members to feel well-rewarded for their contribution.

Results Driven

At Zanda Health, we detest bureaucracy and we strive to keep the focus on building and supporting great software that will help our customers (and in turn, help more of their clients). There are no pointless meetings, forms, or other impediments in your way. As we grow, we aim to stay agile – in every way.

We’re big supporters of personal growth and development and our team is constantly learning and upskilling themselves in many different areas. Innovation is a big part of our culture and we welcome new ideas from everyone.

We truly love our team at Zanda Health and we hope you will too. We’re a bunch of unique individuals from all kinds of backgrounds with a vast array of specialist skills and interests. Although we work remotely, the team works closely together and we also make time to know and support each other.

We’re constantly getting feedback from customers that are relieved to have found Zanda Health. In many cases, they refer to us as a ‘life saver’ or a ‘game changer’, and it feels great to be part of something that helps people get the healthcare support they need. See our customer feedback here.
