Job summary

United Infrastructure Power T&D Limited is seeking a Head of Digital Delivery to lead the UK digital delivery function, partnering with the Engineering Director to shape strategy and scale capabilities across BIM, reality capture, and data management.

You will drive AI automation use cases for underground cabling, OHL, and substations, implement 4D simulations, and oversee BIM standards, CDE governance, and client engagement.

Qualifications

• Essential Experience: Bachelor’s degree in electrical/civil engineering, Construction Management, or accredited digital infrastructure field.
• BIM & Software Expertise: 10+ years overseeing complex BIM frameworks with Revit/Navisworks/Synchro/Dynamo/Fuzor/Power BI/BIM360/ACC.
• UK T&D sector: 5+ years in UK Transmission & Distribution with knowledge of NGET/SSE standards and substation/linear asset design.
• Entrepreneurial: Proven track record building a team or strategic initiative from scratch, including budgeting.
• Automation: Experience applying computational design, scripting, or AI-driven automation to engineering workflows.

Role Summary

Job Title Head of Digital Delivery Reporting To Engineering Director Power T&D Business Unit United Infrastructure Power T&D Limited (UIPTD) Clients SSE, SPEN, NGED, National Grid Voltage Range 66kV – 400kV Contract Type Permanent Location Horsham, Glasgow, Warrington (hybrid working available)

Role Overview The Head of Digital Delivery will provide the vision, strategic architecture, and operational leadership required to build and scale United Infrastructure’s UK digital delivery function from the ground up. You will work in direct partnership with the Engineering Director to architect a robust department growth strategy aligned with overarching engineering and business targets. This role is a unique hybrid of strategic capability building and hands‑on technical pioneering. You will lead the deployment of BIM, Reality Capture, and advanced Data Management systems, while actively developing bespoke AI automation use cases targeting underground cabling, overhead line (OHL) design, and substation automation. Your mission is to position United Infrastructure at the absolute forefront of digital innovation within the UK Power Transmission and Distribution (T&D) sector.

Key Responsibilities

Departmental Strategy, Growth & Leadership

• Architect and execute the growth strategy for the new Digital Delivery department, defining team structures, resource requirements, and headcount business cases to scale the team from in line with departmental targets.
• Act as a trusted strategic advisor to the Engineering Director, translating corporate engineering goals into a measurable digital delivery roadmap.
• Establish departmental KPIs, budgets, and operational frameworks to ensure the new team delivers high-quality, high-efficiency support across all active EPC frameworks.

Specialized AI Automation & Innovation

• Pioneer and implement AI automation tools and computational scripts (e.g., via Dynamo, Python, or proprietary AI models) specifically focused on driving engineering efficiencies in:
• Underground Cabling: Automated route optimization, cable pulling calculations, and thermal analysis integrations.
• Overhead Lines (OHL): Algorithmic tower spotting, profiling, sag/tension automation, and vegetation management predictive tools.
• Substations: Automated protection schematics, modular layout generation, and standardized wiring configuration scripts.
• Institutionalize 4D simulations (via Synchro / Fuzor) and Virtual Reality (VR) environments to optimize client design reviews and stakeholder engagement.

Core Digital Frameworks & Oversight

• BIM Implementation: Establish and govern rigorous transmission / distribution compliant BIM standards, QA/QC workflows, and standardized clash detection / resolution reporting models across all complex major projects.
• Reality Capture: Implement a robust framework for site data capture—incorporating laser scanning, point clouds, and UAV topology mapping—and embed this into the active design and asset verification lifecycle.
• Data Management: Own the strategy for the Common Data Environment (CDE), enforcing strict metadata governance, asset data drops (COBie), and information security protocols across the engineering practice.

Commercial, Bidding & Client Relations

• Formulate the digital and BIM execution strategies for major bids, overseeing the preparation of cost proposals, qualification statements, and innovative digital tenders.
• Champion United Infrastructure’s digital and AI capabilities in client presentations, industry publications, and technical panels to drive new business opportunities and showcase market leadership.
• Build influential relationships with clients, contractors, and industry bodies, presenting technical reports at conferences and publishing in industry journals to position the company as a market leader.

Requirements

• Essential Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical/civil engineering, Construction Management, or an accredited digital infrastructure field.
• BIM & Software Expertise: Minimum 10 years of experience overseeing complex BIM frameworks across diverse teams, with expert-level proficiency in tools like Revit, Navisworks, Synchro, Dynamo, Fuzor, Power BI, and BIM360/ACC.
• Sector Expertise: Minimum 5 years of experience in the UK Transmission & Distribution (T&D) industry, with a deep understanding of NGET / SSE Standards, site requirements, and complex substation / linear asset designs.
• Entrepreneurial Capabilities: Proven experience building a team, sub‑department, or strategic initiative from the ground up, including headcount planning and budget management.
• Automation Background: Demonstrable experience applying computational design, scripting, or AI-driven automation to engineering workflows (ideally within OHL, cabling, or substations) Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Desirable Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IET or ICE).
• Experience with software vendor negotiations, Capex / Opex technology strategies, and intellectual property asset creation.
