Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking an innovative Head of Design & Technology for a secondary academy in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. You will lead the DT faculty, ensuring safe workshop operations and quality GCSE/A-Level outcomes.

You will oversee NEA moderation, manage staff, and coordinate CAD/CAM and manufacturing processes, guiding students through design pipelines from concept to production.

Qualifications

• QTS or UK design/engineering degree required.
• Valid DATA/CLEAPSS safety certifications and software literacy in SolidWorks.
• Proven success in GCSE/A-Level DT outcomes and subject leadership.
• DBS Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and curriculum management for all Design & Technology pathways.
• Teach practical and theoretical DT lessons across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.
• Enforce strict workshop health and safety standards (DATA/CLEAPSS) across all practical spaces.
• Oversee Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) coursework portfolios and lead internal moderation.
• Line-manage department teachers and workshop technical staff.
• Manage heavy machinery, 3D printers, laser cutters, and raw material stock inventories.
