Job summary

Broadoak Academy in Weston-super-Mare is seeking a Head of Design Technology to lead a department across Design Technology, Food Technology, Photography and Art. The permanent, full-time role focuses on curriculum development, leading six staff, and using data to drive improvements.

The post requires QTS and the ability to teach KS3 and KS4; start date provisionally 1 January 2027, subject to pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a department or team.
• Ability to use assessment and progress data to plan interventions.
• Experience teaching KS3 and KS4 across the full ability range.

Responsibilities

• Lead, inspire and shape teaching and learning as Head of Department.
• Lead a team of six colleagues across Design Technology, Food Technology, Photography and Art.
• Lead curriculum development within the subject area.
• Use assessment and progress data to identify areas for improvement and put interventions in place.
• Motivate colleagues and develop the practice of others.
• Champion the success and life chances of all students through high expectations and an ambitious, inclusive curriculum.
