The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is one of the oldest and most recognized centers for biomedical research and teaching, known for its friendly and supportive culture. Key research areas include rehabilitation engineering, cell, tissue and organoid engineering, and medical devices and diagnostics. We are committed to delivering an outstanding student experience and are ranked 8th in the UK and 2nd in Scotland for Biomedical Engineering (The Times/Sunday Times University Guide 2024). BME hosts the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics (NCPO), which offers the UK's only P&O undergraduate course accredited by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics. NCPO is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in training and research.
