Job summary

IMSERV is seeking a Head of Complex Metering in Milton Keynes to lead the end-to-end complex metering capability. You will oversee sub metering planning, Alt HAN, CVA metering and field contractor management, delivering safe, compliant and high-quality solutions while driving technical innovation with the Commercial team.

You will provide strategic direction, operational control and leadership across complex metering activities to meet customer demand, market opportunities and industry change.

• Strong understanding of metering technologies, Alt HAN, CVA metering and field delivery models.

About the Role

The Head of Complex Metering leads IMSERV's complex metering capability, bringing together sub metering planning and engineering, Alt HAN, CVA metering, field sub-contractor management, and new growth and innovation under a single accountable leadership function. The role ensures complex metering services are designed, planned, resourced and delivered safely, commercially and to the required technical standards, while creating a pipeline of practical technical innovation that can be sized, validated and developed into go-to-market propositions with the Commercial team.

The role provides strategic direction, operational control and technical leadership across complex metering activities, ensuring IMSERV can respond to customer demand, emerging market opportunities and industry change with scalable, compliant and high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, technical design and engineering governance for sub metering programmes.
• Own the end-to-end operating model for sub metering planning.
• Work with Commercial, Account Management and Project teams to shape sub metering solutions.
• Lead IMSERV's Alt HAN operational capability, including mobilisation, enduring service delivery, performance management and continuous improvement.
• Ensure Alt HAN processes, skills, partner interfaces and reporting are in place to deliver safe, cost-effective and customer-focused outcomes.
• Identify opportunities to improve Alt HAN productivity, quality and customer experience through better planning, technical support and field execution.
• Create and manage a pipeline of technical innovation opportunities across complex metering, sub metering, CVA, Alt HAN and adjacent energy services.
• Assess opportunities for operational feasibility, technical risk, cost to serve, field capability requirements and scalability.
• Work closely with the Commercial team to size opportunities, define service propositions, build evidence for go-to-market decisions and transition viable propositions into delivery.
• Define, source and manage field sub-contractor capability for complex metering activities, maximising flexibility, quality, safety and cost effectiveness.
• Own the operational leadership and development of IMSERVs CVA metering capability, ensuring high-quality delivery across planning, field execution, compliance and customer outcomes.

What you'll need

Knowledge & Qualifications

• Significant experience in complex metering, field services, energy services or technical operations, with a strong track record in senior leadership.
• Strong understanding of metering technologies, sub metering, CVA metering, Alt HAN and field-based delivery models.
• Experience translating technical capability into scalable commercial propositions, ideally within utilities, metering or energy services.
• Sound commercial and financial awareness, including budget ownership, cost-to-serve assessment and supplier cost management.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety, technical standards, accreditation requirements and field quality governance.
• Full driving licence, with ability to travel regularly, including overnight stays as required.

• Strong leadership and people management skills, including coaching, performance management and development of specialists and managers.
• Excellent technical judgement and problem-solving capability, with the ability to balance safety, compliance, customer needs, cost and scalability.
• Strong commercial mindset, able to work with Commercial teams to quantify opportunities and shape practical go-to-market propositions.

Experience

• Experience leading complex field delivery, metering projects, sub metering, CVA, Alt HAN or similar technical service functions.
• Experience managing third-party suppliers, sub-contractors or partner delivery models in a field services environment.
• Experience developing new services or operational capabilities from concept through mobilisation and onward scaling.
• Experience working with commercial, account management, project and technical teams to deliver customer solutions.
• Experience developing managers and building high-performing teams through growth, change or operational transformation.
