Head of Communications and Marketing - Construction

The Vacancy

Wates Group is seeking a Head of Communications & Marketing for our Construction division. This national role oversees internal and external communications and marketing for Wates' construction and fit-out businesses, including Wates Construction, Wates Smartspace, and Wates Fit Out.

The division operates across the UK in sectors such as custodial, education, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and blue light, serving a diverse range of clients from banks and retailers to public sector bodies.

With over 80 live sites, an annual turnover exceeding £1bn, and around 1,000 employees, this division is a key part of the Wates Group.

The role reports to the Executive Managing Director and involves managing employee communications, media relations, PR, crisis management, digital and social media, event management, and marketing to support business growth. Data-driven insights and feedback will be used to enhance customer and employee experiences.

About the Role

  • Lead employee communications within the Construction division, supporting internal change programs and engaging employees to improve net promoter scores.
  • Manage media relations, social media, and PR activities, maintaining a strong reputation with government entities.
  • Collaborate with business development to develop marketing strategies, campaigns, events, and awards to increase brand awareness and support work-winning efforts. Manage third-party agencies and monitor ROI.
  • Lead the communications and marketing team within the Construction businesses and represent the division on the Wates Group leadership team.
