Job summary

Acivico Building Consultancy is seeking an experienced Building Control leader to head its Community Team, delivering building control services across Birmingham. The role includes deputising for senior leadership and shaping the future of the service while maintaining high regulatory standards.

The successful candidate will oversee a team of Building Inspectors, drive recruitment and professional development, and work with the Director of Building Consultancy to meet service levels and annual

Qualifications

• Registered Building Inspector status at Class 2A F or Class 3, plus Class 4 registration (Technical Manager).
• Experience in local authority and/or private practice or approved inspector Building Control.
• Strong technical and professional credibility with supervision and sign-off responsibilities.
• Proven experience leading, motivating and developing a team.
• Commercial awareness including understanding of fees, budgets and performance management.

Responsibilities

• Lead, stabilise and motivate the Community Building Control team.
• Supervise, review and sign off building control work and ensure audit standards.
• Deliver against Birmingham City Council service requirements and national standards.
• Contribute to budgets, fee-setting and monthly performance monitoring.
• Lead recruitment to build a permanent, high-performing team and support trainees.
• Policy reviews with Building Consultancy administration; deputise for the Director as needed.
• Provide leadership cover for the Major Projects team.
