Job summary

Acivico Building Consultancy in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Building Control leader to head the Community Team, delivering building control services across the city. You will supervise about 10–11 inspectors, sign off cases, and drive performance while upholding regulatory standards.

The role offers hybrid working with typically one day per week in Birmingham and potential progression toward Director level as the service grows.

Qualifications

• Registered Building Inspector with Class 2 A–F or Class 3; Class 4 (Technical Manager) registration are required.
• Experience in local authority and/or private practice or approved inspector Building Control is preferred.
• Strong leadership and ability to develop a high‑performing team.
• Commercial awareness including understanding fees, budgets and performance management.

Responsibilities

• Lead, stabilise and motivate the Community Building Control team.
• Supervise, review and sign off building control work, with cases subject to internal audit.
• Deliver against Birmingham City Council service requirements and national operational standards.
• Work with the Director on annual budgets, fee‑setting and monthly monitoring of income and performance.
• Lead recruitment and build a stable permanent team.
• Deputise for the Director of Building Consultancy when required.
• Provide leadership cover for the Major Projects team.
