Job summary

Barchester Healthcare is seeking a Head Chef to lead the kitchen in delivering nutritious, flavoursome meals in our care-home environments. You will have full autonomy to create balanced menus, manage a kitchen team and maintain high standards across hospitality services.

We value chefs who can train and develop their teams, craft fresh-from-scratch dishes, and maintain safety with HACCP/COSHH. Training on IDDSI diets is available for those new to care.

Qualifications

• Personable and warm approach with genuine interest in residents’ wellbeing.
• Experience leading, motivating and inspiring a team.
• Experience with fresh seasonal food and nutrition understanding.
• Ability to create a warm, welcoming environment in homes.
• Confidence engaging with residents to create appetising, nutritious menus.
• Experience working with front of house to set high dining standards.
• Good understanding of HACCP and COSHH.
• Knowledge of modified diets using IDDSI framework; training available if new to care.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and inspire a team; develop and upskill where required.
• Menu development tailored around residents to deliver person-centred hospitality.
• Work with fresh produce to deliver high-quality dishes.
• Bake fresh cakes, scones and breads from scratch.
• Assist front of house with dining area setup.
• Manage budgets, audits and stock control.
• Create a warm, efficient and fun kitchen environment.
• Oversee recruitment and retention.
• Manage performance of kitchen and front of house teams.
