Job summary

Welford Healthcare is seeking a talented Head Chef for Birchlands Nursing Home in York. This role runs the kitchen for our elderly residents, designing nourishing menus and leading a small catering team.

You will ensure high-quality meals, dietary requirements, and a warm dining experience as part of a compassionate care home environment. We offer a flexible 20-hour week schedule, induction, ongoing training, and benefits including a company pension and DBS.

Qualifications

• Recent experience cooking for large numbers in a commercial setting.
• Experience in managing and motivating a catering team.
• Experience providing food for people with special dietary requirements.
• Flexible, able to work alternate weekends.
• Enhanced DBS check required.

Responsibilities

• Run the nursing home kitchen and meal service for residents.
• Lead and support the kitchen team; mentor and manage staff.
• Design a varied, nourishing menu reflecting residents’ tastes and nutritional needs.
• Maintain high food standards and hygiene; ensure meals are a high-quality experience.
• Assist the General Manager with budgeting and resource planning within the department.

Who We Are Looking For

• You should have recent experience of cooking for large numbers in a commercial setting.
• You must have previously managed and motivated a catering team.
• Youll have experience of providing food for people with special dietary requirements.
• Wed like someone who is flexible, who can work alternate weekends.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

How Youll Make a Difference

Youll be responsible for our residents meal experience and running the nursing homes kitchen. Leading and supporting a team, you will:

• Designing a varied menu that reflects our residents tastes and supports their nutritional needs.
• Ensuring mealtimes are always a high-quality experience.
• Maintaining the highest food standards.
• Supporting, training and directing the kitchen team
• Mentoring and motivating on quality, safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards.
• Assisting the General Manager in developing and managing the budgetary, human and material resources within the department.
