Job summary

Welford Healthcare's Hamble Heights Care Home in Southampton is seeking a skilled Chef / Cook for a bank/zero-hour contract. You will run the kitchen, design varied menus and ensure nutritious meals for our elderly residents.

As a key member of the team, you will lead and train kitchen staff, uphold high food standards, manage dietary requirements, and support the General Manager with budgeting and resource planning. A DBS check is required.

Qualifications

• Experience cooking for large numbers in a commercial setting.
• Managed and motivated a catering team.
• Experience providing food for people with special dietary requirements.
• Flexible and able to work alternate weekends.
• Enhanced DBS check is required.

Responsibilities

• Run the nursing home kitchen and manage the meal experience for residents.

Who We Are Looking For

• You should have recent experience of cooking for large numbers in a commercial setting.
• You must have previously managed and motivated a catering team.
• You’ll have experience of providing food for people with special dietary requirements.
• We’d like someone who is flexible, who can work alternate weekends.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

How You’ll Make a Difference

You’ll be responsible for our residents’ meal experience and running the nursing home’s kitchen. Leading and supporting a team, you will:

• Designing a varied menu that reflects our residents’ tastes and supports their nutritional needs.
• Ensuring mealtimes are always a high-quality experience.
• Maintaining the highest food standards.
• Supporting, training and directing the kitchen team
• Mentoring and motivating on quality, safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards.
• Assisting the General Manager in developing and managing the budgetary, human and material resources within the department.
