Job description

Roots is a contemporary, leading restaurant based in Upminster, Essex. We are passionate about providing our customers with great-tasting meals created with the best quality, locally sourced ingredients. Our dedication has made us one of the top brunch spots in Essex.

We are expanding our offerings from solely pizza to include a more modern European dining experience, offering pizzas alongside steaks, chicken, and burgers. As our Head Chef, you will lead this new project.

As our Head Chef, your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Preparing and plating all dishes to a consistent, high standard
  2. Enforcing strict health and hygiene standards
  3. Keeping up with current food trends and assisting management in developing new menu items
  4. Monitoring stock and waste control to maintain profit margins
  5. Training and developing other chefs

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in overseeing kitchen operations
  • Help with menu planning and recipe development
  • Prepare and cook dishes according to established recipes and standards
  • Ensure food quality and presentation meet the restaurant’s standards
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff
  • Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a sous chef or head chef, preferably in modern European dining
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques and practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Attention to detail and multitasking ability
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations
