Job summary

Deep Sea Electronics Ltd is seeking a Team Manager (Hardware) to lead a segment of the engineering team from our Mansfield site. You will line-manage engineers across North Yorkshire and Sutton in Ashfield sites, coordinate task delivery, and guide development and maintenance of hardware projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive both Agile and Waterfall processes, and ensure high-quality technical outcomes while managing resource planning and development goals.

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of electronic and electrical principles.
  • Good analogue and digital circuit design capabilities.
  • Experience with Altium or similar PCB design tools.
  • Extensive experience in PCB design and manufacture (DfMA).
  • Proficiency designing for EMC with knowledge of EMC testing and certification.
  • Experience with electrical safety certification EN 61010-1.
  • Proven team management experience with remote/hybrid teams.
  • Experience using task management tools and bug tracking (Jira, Redmine).
  • Experience running daily standups and managing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Line manage a segment of DSE engineering team located at North Yorkshire and Sutton in Ashfield sites with some remote/hybrid work.
  • Provide day-to-day task management, 1:2:1 appraisals, goal setting, and development plans; manage holiday approvals and sickness reviews.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to review technical content, estimate task durations, and form project plans.
  • Allocate engineering work tasks using Jira or similar tools; mentor junior engineers.
  • Review engineering output to ensure high standards across the reporting segment.
  • Ensure engineers have skills, knowledge, and tools to complete tasks; address gaps with management.
  • Contribute to project inception with costs estimates and feasibility studies; capture high-level tech requirements.
  • Be a technical decision maker and contribute to platforms/architecture strategy.
  • Develop in-house tools and processes; assist wider company with technical questions.
  • Maintain engineering systems, revision/variant control, and issue management.

The Team Manager (Hardware) will work within the Engineering department based at our sitein Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. They will perform a hands-on role within the matrixedengineering team to line manage a subset of the engineering team in the delivery of newproduct developments and the maintenance of existing ones

Requirements:
  • Solid understanding of electronicand electrical principles

Key Responsibilities & Main Duties:
  • Line management of a segment of DSE engineering team. Engineers are located atboth theNorth Yorkshire and Sutton in Ashfield sites with some remote and hybrid working inplace
  • Line management includes day to day task management, 1:2:1 appraisal, goalsetting, creating, and guiding personal development plans, holiday approval andsickness review
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Mangers to review the technical content ofprojects, define and estimate the duration of tasks to form project plans, assist inmaking sure project plans are technically correct and appropriate timescales arebeing worked to
  • Work with Project managers to allocate engineering work tasks to the reportingsegment, using JIRA or similar tool for task management
  • Provide technical guidance and be a mentor to junior engineers
  • Review and be responsible for engineering work to ensure a high standard of outputfrom the reporting segment
  • Ensure the engineers have the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to completethe tasks
  • Work with the engineering management team to address gaps as necessary
  • Work at the project inception stage to provide product and project costs estimates,feasibility studies and ensure that high level technical requirements are capturecompletely prior to wider engineering involvement
  • Be a technical decision maker and contribute to platforms and architecture strategy
  • Assist in the development of in-house tools and processes
  • Support the wider company by answering technical questions
  • Administration and maintenance of engineering systems, revision and variant controlsystems, issue management systems
  • Work with other supervisors and engineering managers to ensure alignment ontechnology, processes, designs and testing
  • Review department KPIs to ensure targets are being hit
  • Depending on size of team, work hands on as an engineer for the relevant discipline
  • Other ad hoc duties as and when required
