Job summary

Jackson Hogg is seeking a Hardware & Software Engineer for a global manufacturing business in Newcastle. The role is permanent and hybrid, focusing on designing, developing, and supporting industrial products.

You will handle specifications, design and testing of electrical/electronic systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration. Prototyping, validation, and regulatory compliance are also key responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering and 3+ years of experience.
• Proven experience in design across development lifecycle from concept to production.
• Experience with fault finding and circuit debugging and with circuit schematic creation.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (CE/UKCA/UL) and EMC/EMI testing is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop specifications from customer needs and translate into work packages.
• Design, develop, and test electrical and electronic systems for industrial products.
• Collaborate with mechanical, product, and manufacturing teams for seamless integration.
• Perform system-level simulations and validate designs through testing.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including specs and validation plans.
• Support prototyping, testing, and field troubleshooting.
• Ensure compliance with IEC/UL/CE standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and after-sales teams.
• Continuously improve product designs for performance and cost.

Jackson Hogg is delighted to be working with a global manufacturing business looking to bring a Hardware & Software Engineer to design, develop, and support their industrial products.

This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Newcastle.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop specifications, interpret customer specifications, and translate them into development work packages.
• Design, develop, and test electrical and electronic systems for industrial products.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, Product Managers, and manufacturing to ensure seamless product integration.
• Perform system-level simulations and analyses to validate designs.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, and test and validation plans.
• Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting activities in the lab and field.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, UL, CE).
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses (FMEA).
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and after-sales teams.
• Continuously improve product designs to enhance performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to industrial electronics.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of experience.
• Proven experience in system and product design, encompassing the entire development lifecycle from initial concept through to manufacturing and production.
• Prototype/Product testing and validation experience including fault finding and circuit debugging.
• Experience designing circuits and schematics from scratch.
• Knowledge of relevant industrial standards and certifications.
• Familiarity with wiring and cabling standards for industrial applications.
• Experience with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE) is desirable.
• Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based design is a plus (can be trained on the role).
• Knowledge/experience of regulatory compliance requirements (CE/UKCA/UL).
• Knowledge of EMC/EMI design and testing.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
