Job description

Job Description

Hardware Design Engineer | Paignton | Hybrid | Up to £75k | Stock Options Available

Are you a Hardware Design Engineer with experience in high-speed electronics or embedded systems? Do you have a background in system-level hardware integration or advanced connectivity technologies? Are you looking to work on cutting-edge products in next- computing and data systems?

Then this might just be the role for you!

We are working with a disruptive Paignton-based technology company that is developing breakthrough hardware solutions for high-performance computing and advanced connectivity — with real-world applications in data infrastructure, AI systems, and beyond.

They are looking for a Hardware Design Engineer with experience at both board and system levels to join them in their mission to redefine how data moves through complex systems — driving speed, efficiency, and sustainability.

You will be involved in the design, development, and testing of advanced hardware prototypes, helping to take products from concept through to production. This hands-on role includes circuit design, integration, validation, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams and external manufacturing partners.

This position is ideal for candidates with 4–5 years of hardware design experience gained through academic research or commercial engineering roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and integrate advanced hardware modules, including high-speed digital and embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across electrical, mechanical, RF, and software disciplines.
  • Perform board bring-up, validation, and system-level troubleshooting in a lab environment.
  • Conduct signal and power integrity analysis to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support compliance testing (e.g. EMC/EMI) and work with partners through the manufacturing process.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous hardware improvements.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in hardware development, ideally involving high-speed or embedded systems.
  • Understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and board-level design principles.
  • Familiarity with scripting like Python or TCL for automation and test setups.
  • Skilled with lab tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and VNAs.
  • Proficient in PCB design tools such as Altium or Cadence.
  • Knowledge of thermal and mechanical aspects of electronic systems.
  • Degree in Electronics, Physics, or a related engineering discipline.

What’s in it for you?

  • Salary up to £75k, depending on experience
  • Lucrative stock options
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays + Christmas shutdown
  • Private medical cover & life insurance
  • Hybrid working (2–3 days per week on-site in Paignton)
  • Relocation support available
  • Visa sponsorship provided
