Job description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Handyperson (Maintenance Operative) to join our Facilities Management team at a school in Barking. This is a permanent role working 40 hours per week from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.

The role:

• Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor
• Carrying out planned and reactive M&E and fabric maintenance, repair, and new works tasks including statutory and mandatory compliance as directed.
• Undertaking training to qualify as an Authorised or Competent Person for M&E/fabric components as required.
• Performing door inspections across the estate, including fire doors.
• Participating in the call-out rota across both schools on the Barking contract.

The person:

• Previous experience in building services, including all aspects of planned & reactive maintenance within large commercial buildings.
• Basic qualifications or good experience in electrical, plumbing, or fabric works.
• Good IT skills.
• Hardworking with a can-do attitude, able to work unsupervised.
• Full UK Driving License.
• Good communication and customer-focused skills.
• Able to work independently and within a small team.
• Able to obtain DBS clearance due to work near children.
