Job summary

Veolia is hiring an Operations Assistant in Birmingham to perform hands-on duties at the waste transfer station, including forklift operations and loading/unloading vehicles. You will verify waste documentation, ensure safe handling and assist with the incinerator hoist system.

A full UK driving licence is required, with a focus on safety and reliable, compliant operations. The role offers competitive pay, 40-hour weeks, and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience operating forklift and wheeled bucket loader.
• Strong health & safety mindset with safe systems of work.
• Willingness to undertake DBS check if required.
• Ability to learn and use on-site software systems for checks and records.

Responsibilities

• Carry out hands-on operative duties within the waste transfer station, including forklift operations, unloading/loading vehicles, and loading bins onto the incinerator hoist system.
• Complete pre-acceptance checks on waste arriving, verify documentation, packaging and compliance; escalate non-conformances.
• Receive and handle waste types (hazardous, non-hazardous, confidential, secure) with proper labelling and safe handling.
• Assess waste containers and transfer waste to maintain a steady waste stream for the High Temperature Incinerator.
• Support Receiving Hall by operating wheeled bucket loader to manage waste inputs and maintain plant throughput.
• Carry out ash filter duties, monitor ash hopper levels and keep ash lines clear for continuous operation.
