Job summary

PentenAmio UK is seeking a technically hands-on Software Engineering Leader in Tewkesbury. Approximately 70% of time will be spent writing real-time C code and guiding an engineering team, with the remaining 30% on line management, mentoring and setting technical direction.

You will design and review production-quality software, drive CI/CD and secure development practices, and coach a team of around eight engineers to deliver high-quality solutions for defence and security markets.

Qualifications

• Strong background in software engineering with hands-on experience in embedded/low-level C.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle in a product environment.
• Understanding of CI/CD, code reviews and automated testing.
• Ability to translate high-level requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Strong communications skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring engineers and supporting career progression.
• Ability to build and develop high-performing engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain production-quality software as a hands-on engineer.
• Write, review and optimise real-time C code and software architecture docs.
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews and governance activities.
• Mentor engineers, support recruitment and development planning.
• Drive engineering standards, tooling, and CI/CD practices across projects.
• Contribute to planning, estimation and technical decision making.
