Job summary

Brett Group is hiring a hands-on PLC/Control Electrical Engineer for its busy concrete manufacturing operations in the UK. You will maintain and improve PLC-controlled equipment, lead automation upgrades, and drive reliability and safety improvements across batching and material handling systems.

The role requires strong PLC fault-finding skills, HMI/SCADA experience and the ability to mentor maintenance teams while collaborating with production and quality teams.

Qualifications

• Experienced PLC/Controls or Electrical Engineer in manufacturing or heavy industry.
• Strong PLC programming and fault finding, ideally Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens.
• HMI/SCADA experience and electrical maintenance with motors, VFDs, MCCs, sensors, load cells.
• Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Experience delivering automation and control system improvement projects.
• Ability to read/update schematics, P&IDs and technical docs; good communication.

Responsibilities

• Program, troubleshoot, and optimise PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, instrumentation, and control faults.
• Support preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
• Maintain and improve batching, conveying, and material handling equipment.
• Lead automation upgrades and equipment integration projects.
• Analyse plant data to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
• Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Support emergency breakdown response and critical repairs.
• Maintain electrical drawings and maintenance records; document diligently.
• Train maintenance staff on automation and electrical systems.
• Ensure safety compliance and LOTO procedures; collaborate with teams.
