Hands-On Head of Hotel Maintenance

Job summary

BH Group is seeking a hands-on Head of Maintenance to join the opening team at Elysium St Mawes. You will own the maintenance, safety and upkeep of the hotel, fix issues, plan preventative maintenance and manage contractors to keep the property running smoothly.

Work closely with the General Manager, Housekeeping and other teams, set maintenance standards from day one, establish schedules, ensure compliance and guest comfort in Cornwall's stunning coastal setting.

Qualifications

• Strong practical and general maintenance skills with a hands-on approach.
• Experience with planned and preventative maintenance programmes.
• Good understanding of health & safety and property compliance.
• Ability to manage contractors and specialists effectively.

Responsibilities

• Take day-to-day responsibility for maintenance across the hotel.
• Carry out general repairs and maintenance where appropriate.
• Ensure bedrooms, bathrooms and public areas meet high standards.
• Spot problems early and implement preventative actions.
• Create and run a planned preventative maintenance programme.
• Respond quickly to unexpected maintenance issues.
• Manage specialist contractors, engineers and local suppliers.
• Keep up with statutory inspections, servicing, testing and certification.
• Ensure the Spa remains operational and safe, with correct chemical levels.
• Monitor energy and water usage and seek efficiency improvements.
• Plan work to minimise guest disruption and keep records.
