Job summary

ALTEN in London seeks a mid-senior Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to support the development, testing and commissioning of bespoke industrial equipment and test stands. You will assemble, test, troubleshoot, and optimise systems through development, validation and commissioning phases.

You’ll read schematics and wiring diagrams, integrate PLC-based controls and SCADA, and work with cross-functional teams to improve reliability. International site support may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Controls & Instrumentation/Automation Engineer in an industrial environment.
• Hands-on electrical and instrumentation experience.
• Proven PLC-based control systems experience including commissioning and diagnostics.
• Experience with SCADA systems for monitoring and fault investigation.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical docs.
• Experience with panel wiring, field instrumentation, sensors, actuators, and control hardware.
• Strong fault-finding and debugging across electrical and control systems.
• Knowledge of industrial control system standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Support installation, wiring, and integration of industrial control and instrumentation systems.
• Assist development and commissioning of new test stands and equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control issues during development and testing.
• Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and docs.
• Perform system validation, fault-finding, diagnostics, and root cause analysis.
• Support hardware integration activities and ensure safe operation.
• Collaborate with design/test/development engineers to improve performance and reliability.
• Contribute to commissioning, verification, and acceptance testing.
• Participate in occasional international commissioning and site support.
