ALTEN is seeking a Junior Electrical Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer to join our UK Nuclear team in Scotland, supporting long-term infrastructure projects. You will assist with the implementation, maintenance and optimisation of OT systems, including SCADA/HMI platforms and field instrumentation.

The role provides exposure to OT Cyber Security in highly regulated environments, along with a clear development path within ALTEN’s engineering community across energy and defence sectors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution or working towards professional registration (IEng/CEng).
• Experience within Nuclear, Energy, Utilities, Defence, Rail, Oil & Gas, or other highly regulated industries.
• Knowledge of OT Cyber Security principles and standards.
• Familiarity with IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62443, or similar industry standards.
• Experience with industrial networks and protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, or OPC.
• Knowledge of functional safety systems and safety‑related instrumentation.
• Experience producing or reviewing technical documentation, specifications, test procedures, and engineering reports.
• Understanding of asset management, reliability engineering, or maintenance optimisation principles.

Responsabilités

• Provide technical support across the full lifecycle of I&C and OT systems, from requirements definition through to commissioning and maintenance.
• Assist with the design, modification, testing, validation and configuration management of industrial control systems.
• Support operational and maintenance activities to ensure system reliability, safety and performance.
• Contribute to compliance with industrial safety, regulatory and cybersecurity requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and client stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
• Share knowledge, lessons learned and best practices to support continuous improvement within ALTEN and our client teams.

We are looking for an Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer to join our Nuclear team in the UK, supporting long-term projects across critical infrastructure and industrial environments.

You will support the implementation, modification, maintenance and optimisation of Operational Technology (OT) systems, including SCADA/HMI platforms, industrial control systems, networks, and field instrumentation. The role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in both Operational Technology and OT Cyber Security within highly regulated industries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support across the full lifecycle of I&C and OT systems, from requirements definition through to commissioning and maintenance.


• Assist with the design, modification, testing, validation and configuration management of industrial control systems.


• Support operational and maintenance activities to ensure system reliability, safety and performance.


• Contribute to compliance with industrial safety, regulatory and cybersecurity requirements.


• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and client stakeholders to deliver project objectives.


• Share knowledge, lessons learned and best practices to support continuous improvement within ALTEN and our client teams.

Required Skills:

• Experience working with industrial control systems, Operational Technology (OT), PLCs, SCADA, DCS, or process control environments.


• Understanding of instrumentation systems, control loops, sensors, actuators, and associated field equipment.


• Experience supporting engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, including design, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.


• Knowledge of configuration management and engineering change processes.


• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.


• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams and engage with stakeholders at all levels.


• Understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory requirements within highly regulated industries.
