Job summary

Bedford College Group is seeking a Lecturer in Hairdressing & Barbering at Corby Campus to deliver practical and theory lessons across Level 1–3. The role focuses on student achievement, assessment and curriculum delivery with a strong emphasis on industry-relevant skills.

The post offers 37 hours per week, with a permanent full-time contract and a salary between £33,048 and £38,169, plus generous leave and pension provisions. Right to work in the UK required.

Qualifications

  • Holds relevant Hairdressing and Barbering qualifications and keeps industry knowledge current.
  • Experience delivering engaging lessons to diverse learner groups.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and IT skills for teaching and admin.
  • Able to travel between campuses and support college activities as required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical and theory Hairdressing & Barbering lessons across Levels 1–3.
  • Assess, monitor and track student progress with constructive feedback.
  • Develop engaging learning resources and update schemes of work.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement.

Job description

Role: Lecturer - Hairdressing and Barbering

Location: Corby Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher's Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note - Salary and annual leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hrs per Week |52 Weeks per year

Contract Type: Full Time - Permanent

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Hairdressing & Barbering to join The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer - Hairdressing & Barbering, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Hairdressing & Barbering Teaching - Deliver practical and theory lessons across Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing and Barbering programmes, ensuring learners develop the skills and knowledge required for employment and further progression.
  • Student Achievement & Assessment - Assess, monitor and track student progress, provide constructive feedback, and support learners to achieve qualification standards, deadlines and their full potential.
  • Curriculum Delivery & Innovation - Develop engaging learning resources, maintain up-to-date schemes of work, incorporate innovative teaching methods, and contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement.
  • Student Experience & Enrichment - Create an inclusive, safe and stimulating learning environment, support enrichment activities, and ensure students remain at the centre of all teaching and learning practices.
  • Quality, Promotion & Professional Standards - Participate in quality assurance processes, open days and recruitment events, maintain current industry knowledge, and uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, health and safety requirements.
About you:
  • Qualifications & Industry Expertise - Holds relevant Hairdressing and Barbering qualifications, with a strong background in the industry and a commitment to maintaining current professional knowledge and skills.
  • Teaching & Training Experience - Experienced in teaching or training learners, with the ability to deliver engaging lessons, manage classrooms effectively, and embed innovative teaching practices.
  • Communication & Organisational Skills - Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and IT skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and build positive professional relationships.
  • Professionalism & Compliance - Demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, confidentiality, and a strong commitment to safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and safety, and college values.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability - Able to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to changing demands, teach evening or weekend provision when required, and travel between campuses to support college activities and even
