Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join our Hair & Beauty department in Dunstable. You will deliver high-quality teaching across a range of courses, develop schemes of work and assessments, and support learners to achieve their potential through engaging learning experiences.

You will have a Level 3 Hair/Beauty Therapy qualification, with assessor qualifications desirable, and experience teaching and assessing Beauty Therapy within FE settings.

Qualifications

  • Holds a Level 3 Hair/Beauty Therapy qualification, with assessor qualifications desirable.
  • Experience teaching, assessing and monitoring student progress in Beauty Therapy.
  • Knowledge of City & Guilds awarding body requirements and FE environment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and commitment to safeguarding.
  • Willingness to travel across service locations as required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment across courses.
  • Develop schemes of work, learning materials and assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student records and course administration.
  • Support learners to achieve and monitor attendance and progress.
  • Engage with curriculum development and employer partnerships.

Job description

Role: Lecturer – Hairdressing
Location: Central Bedfordshire - Dunstable Kingsway
Salary/Benefits: Salary is £38 per hour
Hours/Weeks: 16 hours per week
Contract Type: Sessional – Hourly Paid

About The Role
We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer to join our Hair & Beauty department at The Bedford College Group.

  • Teaching, Learning & Student Achievement - Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment across a range of courses, supporting learners to achieve their potential through engaging, inclusive and effective learning experiences.
  • Curriculum Planning & Quality Assurance - Develop schemes of work, learning materials and assessments that meet awarding body requirements, while monitoring student progress, undertaking verification and contributing to quality improvement activities.
  • Student Support & Administration - Maintain accurate student records, complete course administration, monitor attendance and achievement, and provide guidance to help students meet required standards and deadlines.
  • Curriculum Development & Employer Engagement - Contribute to curriculum innovation, course development, employer partnerships, vocational opportunities, student recruitment, and marketing activities such as Open Days and careers events.
  • Safeguarding, Equality & Professional Standards - Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, health and safety, and ongoing professional development while maintaining positive learning environments and upholding College policies and values.
About You
  • Industry Qualifications & Professional Development - Holds a Level 3 Hair/Beauty Therapy qualification, with assessor qualifications desirable, and demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional development including teaching qualifications and industry updating.
  • Teaching & Assessment Expertise - Experienced in teaching, assessing and monitoring student progress in Beauty Therapy, with the ability to plan effective lessons, develop schemes of work, and support learners of varying ages, abilities and backgrounds.
  • Industry Knowledge & FE Experience - Strong understanding of current Beauty industry practices, awarding body requirements (e.g. City & Guilds), and ideally has experience working within both the Beauty sector and Further Education environment.
  • Communication, Teamwork & Student Support - Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, with a customer-focused approach, commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding, and the ability to work collaboratively to achieve team objectives.
  • Professionalism, Flexibility & Compliance - Demonstrates high professional standards, works in line with organisational values, maintains health and safety responsibilities, is flexible with working arrangements, and is willing to travel across service locations as required
What is an Associate? Associates work on a short-term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services, and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate Agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you.
