Maiden Erlegh Trust is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant / Technician for Hair & Beauty to support vocational lessons and hands-on activities. You will assist with safe practical delivery, prepare materials, and provide technical guidance across Horizons Alternative Provision Academy.

The role involves working with SEMH and SEN students, safeguarding, and collaboration with schools in the local community. Strong ICT, safety, and behaviour management are essential.

Qualifications

• You will have Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards or an equivalent qualification or experience.
• You will hold Level 2 qualifications in English and mathematics.
• Knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum.
• You should be able to plan, organise and lead high-quality learning activities under supervision.
• Understanding of child development and learning processes.
• Effective questioning and observation skills.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety including COSHH.
• The ability to handle, store and dispose of materials safely and in accordance with regulations.
• The ability to use ICT effectively to support learning.
• The ability to promote a calm, purposeful learning environment and manage behaviour positively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• A proactive, flexible and responsible approach to work.
• A caring and positive approach to working with children and young people.
• A commitment to safeguarding, equality and promoting welfare.

Responsabilités

• Plan, prepare and deliver learning activities for individuals, small groups or whole classes under a named teacher.
• Support students to access the curriculum and make progress.
• Monitor, assess, record and report attainment with teaching staff.
• Provide constructive feedback to students.
• Produce and adapt schemes of work, lesson plans and resources.
• Prepare materials and spaces for Hair & Beauty practical lessons.
• Support demonstrations and practical activities; ensure resources are safe and available.
• Provide technical guidance on Hair & Beauty equipment and materials.
• Organise and monitor departmental resources to stay safe and fit for purpose.
• Implement Health & Safety requirements, risk assessments and COSHH.
• Promote positive behaviour and engagement in line with school expectations.
• Collaborate with colleagues, families and external professionals to support achievement and wellbeing.
• Combine support for teaching with practical and organisational skills in a specialist Hair & Beauty environment.
