Role Overview:
We are seeking a Health & Safety Manager to oversee all HSE activity on a utility-scale solar construction project based in the Middlesbrough area. This role is site-based and will play a key part in supporting the live project phase, ensuring safety standards are upheld and embedded across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain the Health & Safety Management System in line with CDM 2015 and ISO standards
Conduct site audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations
Lead safety inductions, toolbox talks, and daily briefings with operatives and subcontractors
Ensure RAMS, permits to work, and statutory documentation are compliant and current
Engage with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to drive a positive safety culture
Support environmental compliance and monitor site waste and welfare arrangements
Essential Requirements:
NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) Construction Certificate preferred
Proven experience on utility-scale solar or large infrastructure projects
In-depth knowledge of UK HSE regulations, CDM, PUWER, LOLER, and ISO 45001/14001
Strong communication, leadership, and reporting capabilities
Must be commutable to the Middlesbrough area or willing to stay nearby during the project
Desirable:
IOSH, IEMA, SMSTS, or First Aid at Work certifications
CSCS Gold card or equivalent HSE qualification
Familiarity with high-risk activity oversight, including lifting ops and working at height
Environmental awareness and ability to support ESG documentation
