An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our small, highly trained clinical team at North Middlesex University Hospital in the gynaecology and Women's ambulatory day unit/Early pregnancy unit.
The post holder will be responsible for assessing patient care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating patient care programs.
Carry out pathways of care under supervision and, when proficient, demonstrate procedures of care; supervise junior and/or unqualified staff including student nurses and healthcare support workers.
As part of managerial and clinical development, under supervision, take charge of the team/ward whilst undertaking a variable shift pattern as directed by the senior nurse to meet the needs of the service. Maintain clinical study and undertake further personal and professional development in line with Trust policies.
Please note this post is 30 hours a week in an outpatient unit, shifts are from 8am to 8pm, three shifts per week. The unit is open Monday to Sunday from 8am to 8pm.
Introduction to the department
Work in a busy women's Ambulatory Day Unit with 5 consulting rooms, 2 of which have scanning machines for nurse sonographers and doctors. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to develop excellent team working. You will be part of a team delivering high-quality care to women of different age groups from diverse populations with varied needs.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties:
Assess patient care needs and implement programmes of patient care, particularly developing day care hyperemesis treatment, and participate in their evaluation.
Carry out all relevant care procedures for designated patients and supervise learner nurses and Healthcare Support Workers.
Manage medication and controlled drugs used for patient care, ensuring systems for safe administration, ordering, and stock maintenance are followed.
Ensure work complies with Trust/unit and ward policies to maintain professional, clinical, and patient safety.
Collaborate with the North Mid at Home team to inform them of women attending the Woman’s Ambulatory Day Unit with hyperemesis who qualify for ongoing treatment at home.
Gain knowledge and expertise to respond appropriately in emergencies and attend mandatory update sessions.
Cover other areas of gynae outpatient services as required.
Maintain good hand hygiene and environmental cleaning practices in accordance with hospital policies.
