Job summary

Wec Group in Darwen, United Kingdom, seeks a skilled Transport Manager to coordinate group-wide transport planning, vehicle allocation and driver resources. You will negotiate pricing, oversee fleet utilisation and ensure compliance with UK transport legislation and Operator Licence requirements.

You will lead drivers, monitor hours and productivity, work with production and dispatch teams, manage external haulage providers and drive cost-saving improvements across transport processes.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in transport, logistics or fleet management.
• Experience managing drivers and transport operations.
• Strong knowledge of transport compliance and Operator Licence requirements.
• Excellent transport planning and organisational skills.
• Strong commercial and cost-control awareness.
• Good Excel and data analysis skills.
• Experience managing competing priorities across multiple sites.
• Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge and improve existing processes.
• Transport Manager CPC is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate group-wide transport planning, vehicle allocation and driver resources.
• Negotiate pricing, lead times and supplier agreements.
• Oversee fleet utilisation, deliveries, collections, intercompany movements and specialist transport.
• Manage transport drivers and monitor hours, mileage, utilisation and productivity.
• Ensure full compliance with UK transport legislation and Operator Licence requirements.
• Oversee vehicle roadworthiness, maintenance, MOTs, daily checks, defects and tachographs.
• Maintain compliance records and readiness for DVSA inspections.
• Collaborate with divisional managers, production and dispatch to plan transport needs.
• Manage approved external haulage providers, rates and performance.
• Monitor transport costs and identify opportunities to improve fleet efficiency and reduce subcontracting.
• Drive continuous improvement across transport processes and service levels.

• Maintain accurate compliance records and ensure readiness for DVSA inspections.
