About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Transport Manager to join a busy, fast-paced transport operation based in Ringwood.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in transport management and be confident overseeing day-to-day operations in a demanding environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient movement of vehicles and goods, while leading a team and maintaining high operational standards.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage competing priorities and has a strong understanding of transport legislation and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day‑to‑day transport operation, ensuring an efficient and reliable service.
- Lead, motivate and manage drivers and transport staff.
- Plan and coordinate vehicle and driver schedules to maximise efficiency.
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant transport legislation and company policies.
- Maintain high standards of vehicle, driver and operational compliance.
- Monitor transport performance, costs and key performance indicators.
- Manage driver hours, working time and tachograph compliance.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal teams to resolve operational issues.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance, inspections and repairs.
- Investigate and manage incidents, accidents and operational issues where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service levels and operating costs.
- Ensure all relevant records, documentation and systems are accurately maintained.
- Support the development and implementation of transport policies and procedures.
- Provide strong leadership during periods of high operational demand.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- A valid Transport Manager CPC - essential.
- Proven experience managing a busy, fast-paced transport operation.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, compliance and driver regulations.
- Experience managing and leading a team of drivers and/or transport staff.
- Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commercially aware and solutions‑focused approach.
- Good IT and transport management systems experience.
- A proactive approach to improving operational performance.
- The flexibility and resilience required to work in a demanding transport environment.
