Job Description:
Group Store Manager - UK
LOCATION – Central London office and field based
Lilac Street Limited is a recruitment agency supporting a fashion lifestyle brand in their search for a Group Store Manager.
About the Company
This UK-based company began in the late 1990s and has since evolved from offering sleepwear to establishing itself as a distinctive lifestyle company. It specialises in creating and curating thoughtfully designed clothing, homeware, and editorial content, with a strong emphasis on traditional craftsmanship and quality textiles.
With its creative hub in the UK, it is among the rare few in the British fashion scene to maintain its own in-house pattern room. The company has a national retail presence, complemented by a robust online platform.
Its workplace culture is shaped by values such as thoughtfulness, simplicity, creativity, integrity, and courage—fostering a mindful, innovative environment committed to sustainability, authenticity, and meaningful design.
About the Role
As Group Store Manager, you will take full accountability for the operational, commercial, and brand performance across a group of retail stores. You will lead by example, using your initiative to manage store teams and deliver performance goals while maintaining a consistently high brand experience.
You will work closely with support functions to ensure teams are equipped with the guidance and resources they need. Your approach to leadership and customer service will set the standard for your group, and you'll play a key role in mentoring and developing your teams to reflect those values.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the operational performance across a group of 10 stores across the UK.
- Deliver sales, payroll, and stock management KPIs; support the UK Retail Manager with broader cost management and reporting, including profit contribution via group P&L.
- Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing store management team with tailored training and coaching.
- Set and monitor measurable performance goals and identify succession opportunities through regular development conversations.
- Champion exceptional customer service across all locations, guiding store teams to meet and exceed expectations.
- Collaborate with the Visual Merchandising Manager to maintain consistent and inspiring store visuals.
- Support marketing and branding initiatives in collaboration with the Retail Marketing Manager.
- Build strong relationships with Buying & Merchandising teams to manage stock effectively, balancing sales with aesthetic presentation.
- Share feedback on stock performance and store needs with key internal stakeholders, ensuring communication is accurate and constructive.
- Oversee excellent back-of-house operations to support sales performance and secure store environments.
- Ensure stores follow administrative and operational procedures, including cash and stock handling, in line with the operations manual.
- Foster a safe and healthy work environment by leading on risk assessments and high standards of housekeeping.
- Actively pursue feedback and self-development opportunities to enhance your own performance.
- Undertake additional tasks as required by the UK Retail Manager.
The Person
- Proven multi-site retail management experience, ideally within premium or fashion retail environments.
- Strong leadership background, with a track record of building, inspiring, and retaining high-performing teams.
- Previous experience in fashion retail with a deep understanding of styling, product presentation, and seasonal trends.
- Commercially focused, with the ability to interpret sales data and KPIs to drive performance across multiple locations.
- Customer-centric mindset, demonstrating a passion for delivering exceptional service standards and enhancing customer experience.
- Highly organised and detail-oriented, with experience managing operations, compliance, and back-of-house processes.
- Strong communicator, capable of influencing and collaborating effectively with head office teams and direct reports.
- Agile and adaptable, able to manage change, respond to business needs quickly, and remain calm under pressure.
- Visual merchandising knowledge, ensuring high standards of presentation in line with brand guidelines.
- Experienced in recruitment and team development, with a coaching approach to people management.
- Confident in using retail systems and tools, such as EPOS, stock management, and reporting software.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for results.
