Job description

Our Ways of Working Principles:

We believe that most of us do our best work when we work together, but we know that everyone works in different ways, and quite frankly, has other commitments and responsibilities outside of work.

As we further adjust to hybrid working, we want to take what we've learnt from working remotely and keep the flexibility that's enabled us to thrive and keep driving our business forward.

We have some core principles which support us in this:

Do what’s right

Trust & give permission

Delivery matters

We understand ways of working can look different based on your role, team and you as an individual so we are here to support and discuss this with you during the interview process.

What You’ll Be Doing

The role of the Group Senior Financial Accountant is a mid-senior role and reports to the Group Senior Finance Manager. Your peers will be the Finance Managers of the Moonpig, Greetz and Experiences businesses and the Group Financial Reporting Manager. You will work with the wider Finance team members on a daily basis.

The Group Financial Accountant will play a key role in the month-end close process, internal group reporting, intercompany accounting and managing forecasts and performance tracking for specific corporate entities. The role will also support the Group Financial Reporting manager with external reporting and technical projects as required. This position supports the accuracy and integrity of financial data across the group and helps ensure a strong control environment, contributing to high-quality management information and risk management. The role involves collaboration with finance teams across the group and offers exposure to the operations of a fast paced listed business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting
  • Manage the close process of the Group’s two corporate entities including accounting for borrowings / share based payments / derivatives and IFRS 16 (plus payroll and opex).
  • Manage the monthly group close process, including group consolidations and internal reporting decks
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations, resolve mismatches, and manage elimination entries.
  • Liaise with brand finance teams to review reporting submissions and ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and group-level adjustments as required.
  • Review the accuracy of trial balances and perform key reconciliations at group level.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining management reports, variance analysis, and internal reporting templates.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in financial processes and controls, including automation and documentation enhancements.
  • Support the wider Group finance team with external reporting tasks, including the production of the Group Financial statements and the statutory accounts. Assist with internal and external audit queries relating to internal reporting and control processes.
  • Support the wider Group finance team in managing the external auditor relationship.
Internal controls
  • Ensure month-end control procedures are completed in line with the Group’s risk and control matrices and checklists
  • Monitor and support the effective operation of key month-end and ITGC (IT General Controls), identifying any control weaknesses or areas for remediation.
  • Support the ongoing development and strengthening of the Group’s internal controls & processes.
Budget and forecasting
Own the forecasting and cost tracking process for the Group’s two corporate entities, including:
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly Opex and payroll forecasts.
  • Performing variance analysis against budget/forecast.
  • Working with HR, financial control, legal and FP&A to ensure costs are accurately captured and understood.
  • Identifying and flagging potential risks and opportunities to budget performance.
  • Track and manage accruals and ensure completeness of monthly cost reporting in line with accruals-based accounting principles.
  • Support the consolidation and review of budgets and forecasts from group entities.
You'll be a good fit for this role if you:
  • ACA/ACCA qualified, ideally 2-3 years PQE, with previous management accounting / financial accounting experience.
  • Listed IFRS group experience (preferred but not essential)
  • Experienced executing and delivering at pace with high attention to detail
  • Good organisational skills, prioritisation and effective project management mindset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An analytical and problem-solving mind-set to understand, challenge and ask the relevant questions
  • Proactive and enthusiastic approach
  • SAP experience (preferred but not essential)
Bonus:
  • Planful experience
  • Workiva experience
