Job description

Howden is a collective – a group of talented and passionate people all around the world. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mind-set, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 15,000 employees spanning over 100 countries.

Our people are our biggest asset as well as our largest shareholder group and are everything that makes us unique; our inclusive culture, the quality service we offer our clients, and our continued growth, all come from our people-first approach. There’s no such thing as individual success. We all need to play our part, contributing our skills and experience to make a true difference. That’s Howden.

Why work at Howden?

We have always been employee-owned and driven by entrepreneurial spirit. Right from the beginning, we've focused on employing talented individuals and empowering them to make a real difference to the company, whilst building successful and fulfilling careers at the same time. Simply put, we hire talented specialists and give them what they need to make a difference for clients. Always have, always will.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down disappointed head-hunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work/life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

Howden is seeking a Consultant who will be responsible for advising clients within the Asset Management industry sector on their employee benefits programs, with a preferred specialist knowledge of Group Risk. This opportunity is to join a dynamic division within Howden Employee Benefits and Wellbeing, servicing over 350 clients in the sector.

You will be expected to manage client relationships and policies in Group Risk, as well as develop new opportunities across the broad spectrum of Employee Benefits. You will partner with specialist consultants in Healthcare and Pensions and have the support of our Operations team to work collaboratively to deliver a market-leading service proposition to clients in this specific market.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity that has the flexibility to work from any of our UK offices following a hybrid work pattern (or you may be fully remote with the expectation of being onsite once per month and at client sites ad hoc).

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Be the first point of contact for clients. Understand the sector and benefits offered. Be prepared to respond quickly and accurately to client queries.
  2. Build a robust system for ensuring appropriate management of consultancy tasks including proactive follow-up with clients and insurers.
  3. Build and lead the relationship with a portfolio of Asset Management clients whilst providing advice on Group Risk and associated insurance products and services.
  4. Provide all technical advice to clients on the policies you are responsible for, seeking assistance from colleagues where appropriate.
  5. Work closely with the Asset Management Operations Team to ensure all renewal, reviews, claims, and medical underwriting are completed in a timely manner to meet clients’ needs.
  6. Proactively build on existing external relationships with clients, prospects, and insurers.
  7. Hold a broad knowledge of insurers’ propositions to provide the most appropriate advice for clients.
  8. Collaborate with Howden colleagues across Health & Benefits and the wider group to encourage client referrals and deliver new business proposals.

Role Requirements:

  1. You will need to be proficient in advising clients in Group Risk, along with a basic knowledge of broader Employee Benefits.
  2. Detailed knowledge and understanding of group risk policies, primarily death in service, income protection, critical illness, and other employee benefits.
  3. Experience in consultancy or administration. You can create, write and manipulate template reports.
  4. You take ownership of your portfolio and proactively manage the associated workload, flagging client risks and opportunities.

Who we’re looking for:

At Howden we value diversity - there is no one Howden ‘personality type’. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  1. Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new.
  2. We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges.
  3. We are determined to make a positive difference, at work and beyond.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. Our business succeeds by allowing our people to make a mark in the areas they care about most: personal development, volunteering, and fundraising for charity, or creating new insurance products that address society’s greatest challenges.

And we know that separate home and work lives don't really exist. If you're happy and healthy at home, you're more likely to be happy and fulfilled at work – and vice versa. That's why we do our best to support our people in every aspect of their lives.

Diversity and Inclusion:

At Howden, we consider our people our chief competitive advantage and as such we treat colleagues, candidates, clients, and business partners with equality, fairness, and respect – regardless of age, disability, race, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or family circumstances.

Our sustainability promise:

We’re on a life-long journey to become an ever-more sustainable group. It's a commitment to taking care of our people and the world we live in, to doing good business, and to making a positive impact wherever we can.
