Job summary

Mature Accountants Ltd. is recruiting a Group Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day finance function for a c.£50m turnover UK group spanning five companies. The role reports to the Group Finance Director and steers the finance team of ~16 across multiple locations.

You will own consolidated reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial controls while collaborating with senior leadership on strategic initiatives. Hybrid Leeds/Newark with regular cross-site presence.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA and senior finance experience.
• Experience leading finance teams across multiple sites and entities.

Job description

Location: Leeds / Newark with hybrid working

We are working exclusively with an established, profitable and growing multi-site UK Group to recruit a Group Financial Controller.

Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, this is a broad, hands-on senior finance role with responsibility for the day-to-day finance function across a c.£50m turnover Group comprising five companies.

You will lead and develop a finance team of approximately 16 across multiple locations, take direct financial responsibility for one of the Group's subsidiary businesses and work closely with operational and senior leadership teams across the organisation.

The role offers a good balance of financial control, reporting, commercial support, team leadership and ongoing process improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day finance function and manage a team of approximately 16
• Oversee monthly management accounts, month-end and year-end processes
• Maintain robust financial controls, balance sheet reconciliations and accurate financial records
• Take financial ownership of one Group subsidiary, including performance, profitability, budgeting and forecasting
• Support Group consolidation and quarterly Board reporting
• Provide commercial insight and challenge to operational management
• Lead the annual statutory accounts and external audit process
• Oversee VAT returns, statutory filings and other regulatory reporting
• Monitor cash flow, working capital and financial performance
• Coordinate annual budgeting and longer-term forecasting
• Support investment appraisals, acquisitions, integrations and other strategic projects
• Drive improvements across finance processes, controls, systems and management reporting
• Identify opportunities to automate and streamline reporting
• Develop the finance team and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

The breadth is directly reflected in the client's specification, including responsibility for consolidation, statutory reporting, budgeting, team leadership and systems/process improvement

About you

We are looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience operating in a senior finance role.

You should have:

• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience
• Experience managing and developing finance teams
• Statutory accounts and external audit experience
• Strong budgeting and forecasting experience
• Advanced Excel skills
• The ability to work closely with and constructively challenge senior stakeholders
• A hands-on approach and willingness to get into the detail

Experience within a multi-company or multi-site environment, SAP, finance transformation/process improvement and supporting operational business leaders would be particularly useful. Experience of Sage Payroll is also required.
