Job summary

Walker Hamill seeks a Group Assistant Accountant in Reading to support month-end close and develop within an accounting qualification trajectory. The role offers hybrid working (3 days a week) and study support, with a salary guide of £30,000–£34,000 plus benefits.

The successful candidate will process key financial tasks, manage billing and receivables, and contribute to audits and regulatory reporting while growing within the finance team.

Qualifications

• Actively studying towards an accounting qualification (ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
• Strong numeracy with attention to detail and ability to produce accurate reporting.
• Prior finance team experience and familiarity with finance systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage key financial and accounting processes to meet deadlines.
• Oversee billing activities and ensure invoices are accurate and timely.
• Monitor Accounts Receivable ledgers and support debt collection.
• Perform regular reconciliations of bank, credit card and expense accounts.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes and provide complete financial information.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Coordinate intercompany accounting, invoicing and recharges.
• Assist Accounts Payable and respond to queries as required.
• Support annual audit process with information requests.
• Coordinate regulatory and statistical reporting requirements.
• Support wider Finance team with ad-hoc activities and process improvements.
