Job summary

Totally Local Company is recruiting a Greenspace Operative 1 for our parks team in Stockport. The role is permanent and on site, 37 hours per week with seasonal hours. A DBS check will be required.

You will perform grounds maintenance and horticultural duties across parks, countryside areas, verges, and public spaces, including mowing, pruning, weed control, planting and setting out bedding. Experience in grounds maintenance and knowledge of horticultural standards are preferred; training and

Responsibilities

• Undertake grounds maintenance and horticultural duties in parks, green spaces, verges and public areas.
• Carry out high quality horticultural operations including mowing, pruning, planting, seeding, turfing and weed control.
• Erect, dismantle and maintain recreational facilities and markings where required.
• Contribute to safe, courteous and reliable public service and maintain equipment in good condition.

At Totally Local Company an opportunity has arisen for an Greenspace Operative 1 who possess’ a professional demeanour, sound judgement and integrity to join our parks team.

A DBS check will be required for this role.

Successful candidates are to undertake Grounds maintenance and horticultural duties in the following areas:

Parks including countryside parks, green areas including highway verges, landscaped areas, planted areas, council properties, recreation areas, cemeteries, schools and other public amenity areas.

You are required to undertake general maintenance duties in the following areas:

General maintenance of all green areas including parks, countryside parks, highway verges, landscaped areas, planted areas, council properties, recreation areas, cemeteries, schools and other public amenities, high profile lawn areas, fine turf and sports turf, horticultural features.

You are to carry out high quality horticultural operations including hand weeding, weed spraying, application of pesticides and fertilisers, mowing grass, pruning, hedge cutting, planting, seeding, turfing, leaf removal and setting out bedding in accordance with design specification and other associated horticultural duties.

You will also be required to erect, dismantle and maintain recreational and sports facilities including goal posts and other recreational equipment. Mark out and maintain markings on sports facilities to specified standards and be required to undertake pavilion duties.

Skills and experience

• Experience in delivering Grounds Maintenance or related work
• Knowledge and understanding of horticultural standards, working methods and equipment deployed within Parks and grounds maintenance.
