Job summary

Arup is seeking a graduate to join its Transport planning practice in the UK. You will help develop transport strategy, policy, and business cases, applying data analytics and modelling to support low-carbon transport solutions across trains, trams, buses, and active modes.

You will prepare technical reports, conduct numerical analyses and use software like Excel, QGIS/ArcGIS, and other modelling tools, advancing your skills while contributing to major projects and local community impact.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Primary study areas include Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography & Geospatial Science or Urban Planning.
  • Required technical skills: Data Analysis, Numerical Skills, GIS & Spatial Analysis, Research, Report Writing, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, QGIS or ArcGIS.
  • Desirable skills: Programming & Automation, Business Case & Economic Appraisal, Transport Modelling, Public Transport Planning Tools, SATURN, CUBE, Aimsun, Python, SQL, Podaris, Power BI.
  • Full working rights in the UK and no more than 12 months of full-time experience.
  • Graduation status: recently graduated or on track to graduate before employment.Seeking changemakers, innovative minds, growth seekers and adaptable adventurers.

Responsibilities

Our Transport planning practice is at the forefront in thinking about the future of our cities, towns, and transport networks – driving innovation, using systems thinking, data analytics and modelling together with an advisory mindset, to deliver what our clients need.

Low carbon transport is our priority, be it trains, trams, buses or active modes and smarter transport solutions.

We are involved in a broad range of projects; from developing transport strategy and policy, through business case development and economic appraisal, to the planning of new transport networks and systems. We are engaged in some of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK, ranging from Northern Powerhouse Rail to Great Grid Upgrade and the Haweswater Aqueduct Replacement Programme. Alongside this, we make a real impact in our local communities, for example through active travel masterplans, and improving local public transport provision. We work for devolved administrations, local Councils, infrastructure operators and private sector organisations.

  • Preparing reports on technical analysis and findings;
  • Undertaking numerical analysis;
  • Understanding various computer software tools ranging from Microsoft Excel through to specific modelling packages;
  • Working on technical, research and strategy reports;
  • Solving technical problems and providing innovative solutions as your level of experience develops

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • An undergraduate or bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
  • Primary study areas in a relevant discipline, such as Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography & Geospatial Science or Urban Planning.
  • Required technical skills: Data Analysis & Numerical Skills; GIS & Spatial Analysis; Research; Report Writing; MS Word; MS Excel; MS PowerPoint; QGIS or ArcGIS

To be considered for a graduate opportunity, your application must include a copy of your academic transcript and meet the following criteria:

  • Full working rights in the country of application
  • No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
  • Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
