Graduate Transport Modeller
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and analytical Graduate Transport Modeller to join our Transport Planning team. This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career working on a wide range of transport modelling, appraisal and infrastructure projects that help shape future transport networks across the UK.
As a Graduate Transport Modeller, you will support the development, maintenance and application of transport models used to assess transport schemes, development proposals and strategic investment decisions. Working alongside experienced transport planners and modellers, you will gain hands‑on experience in model building, data analysis, forecasting and business case development whilst receiving structured training and professional development support.
This role offers exposure to a variety of projects across highways, public transport, active travel and major infrastructure schemes, providing an excellent foundation for a long‑term career in transport consultancy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the delivery of transport modelling and appraisal projects across a range of sectors.
- Assisting with the collection, analysis and interpretation of transport and traffic data.
- Developing, updating, calibrating and validating transport models under the supervision of senior colleagues.
- Preparing demand forecasts and future transport scenario assessments.
- Supporting the production of technical reports, presentations and project documentation.
- Checking modelling outputs to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry guidance and quality standards.
- Assisting with the development of business cases, economic appraisals and scheme assessments.
- Working collaboratively with transport planners, engineers and other multidisciplinary teams.
- Attending project meetings and contributing to discussions with clients and stakeholders.
- Developing technical knowledge of transport modelling software, appraisal methods and industry best practice.
- Supporting innovation through the use of data analysis, programming and digital tools where appropriate.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Essential
- Bachelor's degree (or expected degree) in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Data Science, Physics or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- A full right to work in the UK
- Excellent problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage workload and work effectively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Enthusiasm for developing a career in transport modelling and transport planning.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Transport Planning, Transport Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of strategic transport modelling software such as SATURN, VISUM or CUBE.
- Understanding of public transport and demand modelling principles.
- Experience of data analysis and programming using Python, VBA, R or similar tools.
- Awareness of microsimulation software such as VISSIM, AIMSUN or S-Paramics.
- Familiarity with operational modelling tools such as LinSig or Junctions.
- Understanding of transport appraisal methodologies and tools such as TUBA and AMAT.
- Experience of GIS software and spatial data analysis.
- Relevant placement, internship or university project experience within transport planning, modelling or engineering.
