Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Graduate Town Planner to join the Saffron Walden team on a permanent basis, with a salary of £26,000–£32,000. This role supports planning applications, policy research, and client liaison.

You will work on residential, commercial and rural projects, assist senior staff, attend site visits, and help prepare statements and reports. A degree in Town Planning or related field is required; postgraduate qualifications advantageous.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications.
• Undertaking planning research, policy reviews and site appraisals.
• Assisting with planning statements, appeal documents and other technical reports.
• Supporting the promotion of strategic development sites through the planning system.
• Researching local and national planning policy and emerging legislation.
• Liaising with clients, local planning authorities, consultants and other stakeholders.
• Attending site visits, meetings and planning committees where appropriate.
• Assisting senior members of the team with a varied portfolio of projects.

Duties for the role of Graduate Town Planner:

• Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications
• Undertaking planning research, policy reviews and site appraisals
• Assisting with planning statements, appeal documents and other technical reports
• Supporting the promotion of strategic development sites through the planning system
• Researching local and national planning policy and emerging legislation
• Liaising with clients, local planning authorities, consultants and other stakeholders

Requirements for the role of Graduate Town Planner:

• A degree in Town Planning, Planning, Geography, Urban Planning or a related discipline
• A relevant postgraduate planning qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential
• A strong interest in the UK planning system and the development process
