Job summary

Based at our Dovenby Hall headquarters, M-Sport UK is recruiting a Graduate Sub Assembly Engineer to join the Sub Assembly team. You’ll work at the interface of Engineering, Design and Sub Assembly, gaining hands‑on experience building, developing and testing vehicle sub‑assemblies for our competition cars.

You will assist with development, planning, process improvement, technical documentation, quality checks and component lifing, while collaborating across departments to deliver reliable

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Motorsport/Mechanical/Automotive engineering or related field.
  • A genuine passion for motorsport and a drive to progress in a high-performance environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take on challenges in a fast-paced setting.
  • Attention to detail with a practical, methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong communication and teamwork across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist build, development and testing of vehicle sub-assemblies and components.
  • Support planning and forecasting to keep projects on track.
  • Learn and improve processes within the Sub Assembly Department.
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications and build information.
  • Conduct quality and build checks to ensure standards.
  • Track components and lifing to support reliability and accuracy.
  • Analyse issues and report to improve system reliability.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid, and a variety of global customer racing activities. As part of our Graduate Engineering Programme for the 2027/28 intake, we are looking to recruit an ambitious and driven Graduate Sub Assembly Engineer to join our Sub Assembly team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.


This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to develop their career within a high-performance motorsport environment, working at the interface between Engineering, Design and the Sub Assembly Department. You will have the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in the build, development and testing of vehicle sub‑assemblies and components, contributing to the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of M‑Sport’s competition cars.


The role responsibilities include:



  • Sub Assembly Development: Assist with the build, development and testing of vehicle sub‑assemblies and components used across M‑Sport’s competition cars.




  • Project Support: Support planning and forecasting activities to help ensure projects remain on track and are delivered to the required standards and deadlines.




  • Process Improvement: Learn, develop and improve processes and procedures across the Sub Assembly Department.




  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and issue technical documentation drawings, specifications and build information relating to sub‑assemblies and components.




  • Quality & Build Checks: Conduct quality and build checks to ensure assemblies and components meet the required standards.




  • Component Tracking & Lifing: Assist with the tracking and lifing of transmission components to support reliability, accuracy and effective component management.




  • Analysis & Reporting: Analyse and report on issues to support improvements in system reliability and overall performance.




  • System Integration: Support system layout, component selection and integration across multiple programmes.




  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with technicians, suppliers, Engineering, Design and other departments to ensure sub‑assemblies’ functionality and reliability.

Essential Criteria & Skills:



  • Engineering Qualification: BEng or MEng degree qualification in Motorsport Engineering/Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.




  • Motorsport Passion: A genuine passion for motorsport and a drive to progress within a high-performance engineering environment.




  • Willingness to Learn: Keen to learn, develop and take on new challenges within a fast‑paced and hands‑on engineering environment.




  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail with a practical and methodical approach to problem solving.




  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, relationship and team-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across different departments.




  • Quality & Performance: Pride yourself on delivering a high standard of performance and quality whilst working to strict deadlines in a time‑sensitive environment.




  • Time Management: Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.




  • IT Literacy: Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages.




Preferred Experience:



  • Previous experience within the motorsport or automotive industry, including an industrial placement year.




  • Hands‑on practical motorsport experience, such as volunteering on race weekends or Formula Student.




  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems, vehicle systems and assembly principles.
