Job summary

Astroscale UK (Harwell) is seeking a systems engineer to act as the technical linchpin for space systems projects across the lifecycle. You will work with experienced engineers and project managers to mature architectures, balance customer needs, and meet performance requirements.

Qualifications

• University degree in engineering, physics, maths or another technical discipline.
• Ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong presentation skills to engineers and project managers.
• A knack for seeing the bigger picture while managing details.
• Good organisation of tasks, details and notes for clear thinking.
• Experience with scientific and engineering computing (Python, C++, MATLAB/Simulink).

Responsibilities

• Define mission concepts, requirements, and timelines to deliver a system meeting customer needs.
• Use systems thinking to identify drivers for design, performance, risk, and cost.
• Present trade-off analyses for early and late lifecycle engineering.
• Design baseline and change management across the system lifecycle.
• Collaborate with project managers, leadership, customers, and suppliers.
• Negotiate action plans for technical deliverables and risk mitigations.
• Derive technical risks from SME analyses at mission and system levels.
• Communicate issues and risks clearly to all technical stakeholders.
• Explain system-level issues to non-technical colleagues and agree on compromises.
