Company Overview

Hays is currently partnered with a national company that is looking for a number of Graduate Surveyors with 3 months to 3 years of experience. The company is a market leader and aims to support a new wave of Graduate Surveyors through their APC to become Chartered Surveyors.

Your new role

1. Learn to oversee and manage business rates liabilities for a portfolio of commercial properties, ensuring accurate assessments and cost reductions where possible.
2. Gain insights on identifying opportunities for business rate appeals, challenging assessments, working with the Valuation Office, and negotiating reductions where relevant.
3. Provide strategic advice to clients on business rates reliefs, exemptions, and mitigation strategies.
4. Shadow Senior Surveyors conducting property valuations for business rates purposes and assess the impact of rating revaluations on client portfolios.
5. Ensure adherence to all relevant legislation, including the Local Government Finance Act and Valuation Office Agency (VOA) regulations / Duty to Notify.
6. Support Senior Surveyors in engaging with local councils and other governing bodies to resolve business rates and BID issues.
7. Learn to conduct reviews of client portfolios to ensure accurate business rates assessments and identify cost-saving opportunities, including face-to-face meetings and updates with clients.
8. Support Senior Surveyors in preparing detailed reports, financial analyses, and case files for clients, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all assessments.
9. Collaborate with colleagues in property management, valuation, and legal teams to provide comprehensive client service.

What you'll need to succeed

• Degree in Real Estate
• 3 months to 3 years of experience in Business Rates or Valuations
• General understanding of UK Business Rates legislation, rating appeals, and valuations
• Strong written and verbal skills and eagerness to perform at a high level
