Job summary

RedTech is seeking a Graduate R&D Software Engineer in the North Uttlesford/Greater Cambridge area, on-site only. The role targets top graduates or early-career engineers ready to tackle cutting-edge technologies while supporting research objectives.

You will contribute to software engineering, data science, and machine learning tasks, with clear needs for strong academic credentials and the ability to obtain DV Security Clearance. A full UK driving licence is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Top academic background with 1st class honours or high 2.1 from a leading university.
• AAA at A Level or equivalent UCAS points.
• Interest in Computer Vision, Image Processing or RF.
• Strong problem-solving ability and proactive learning attitude.
• Eligible for DV Security Clearance (UK residency 10+ years).
• Full UK driving licence or plan to obtain one within six months.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to research and development tasks across software, data science and ML in a startup.
• Collaborate with the team to design and develop software solutions for complex challenges.
• Develop data collection, preprocessing and optimisation techniques for ML.
• Maintain Linux-based company systems.

Graduate R&D Software Engineer

An exciting opportunity for a Graduate or experienced Software Engineer to join an innovative stealth start-up in Saffron Walden as an R&D Software Engineer, who are tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Joining a company founded by experts in their field who have already realised success with other start-ups, this offers the chance to work in an environment filled with technological innovation whilst working on cutting-edge tech.

Our client values those with absolute top academics - therefore, requires a 2.1 or 1st from internationally renowned university and all A's at A-Level (or international equivalent).

Due to the nature of some client projects, you must be willing and eligible to obtain DV Security Clearance. This generally requires a long-term UK residency history (typically 10+ years) and the ability to pass government security vetting. You can join the team and work on other commercial projects while your clearance application is progressing.

Location: North Uttlesford / Greater Cambridge Area - fully on-site due to the nature of the role

Requirements for R&D Software Engineer - Graduate Considered

• This company highly values an outstanding academic background, so we are looking for a 1st class honours or high 2.1 degree from a top university in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Electronics or similar.
• Minimum of AAA at A Level or equivalent UCAS points
• We would particularly love to hear from those with knowledge in either Computer Vision, Image Processing or RF – please ensure detailed on your CV
• Strong problem-solving ability
• Absolute willingness to learn, with a proactive nature in asking questions to expand the knowledge base
• Any exposure to any of the following would be beneficial: Embedded Development, Hardware Development, SDRs, Docker, Cloud technologies, or Mobile App Dev in iOS or Android (please ensure this is included on your CV)
• You must be in a position to qualify for SC Clearance due to the nature of some of the projects (this usually means you have lived in the UK for the past 10+ years, have a clean criminal record, etc.)
• A full UK driving licence, or a commitment to obtaining one within six months of starting

Responsibilities for R&D Software Engineer - Graduate Considered

• Contribute to various technical tasks to support research and development objectives, gaining hands-on experience across software engineering, data science, and machine learning in a dynamic start-up setting.
• Work alongside team members to design and develop software solutions addressing the company’s unique challenges.
• Develop techniques for data collection, preprocessing, and optimisation to support machine learning and algorithm development.
• Take responsibility for managing and maintaining operational company systems, primarily Linux-based.
