Job summary

Rogers McHugh Recruitment is recruitment a Graduate Project Manager for a well-established retail contractor near Hull. You will start under experienced Project Managers, gaining insight into planning, delivery and live projects across the UK.

With a 2:1 degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying or a related subject, you will develop your commercial awareness, organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while visiting sites

Responsibilities

• Support experienced Project Managers with delivery of live construction projects.

• Develop understanding of contracts, programmes and project delivery; travel to sites as required.

About you

You are a recent graduate who is looking to build a career in construction project management and want the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals while gaining hands‑on experience on live projects.

You may have studied Construction Management, Project Management, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying or a related subject, ideally achieving a 2:1 degree or above.

You do not need previous experience in retail fit-out. What matters most is that you are organised, commercially aware, confident communicating with people and genuinely interested in developing a career within construction.

You will join an experienced project delivery team who will support and develop you from day one, giving you exposure to live projects and gradually increasing your responsibility as your experience grows.

Ideally, you will live within around one hour's commute of Hull, as the role will be office based with regular travel to projects across the UK.

Your experience

You will ideally have:

• A 2:1 degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying or a related subject

• A genuine interest in developing a career in construction project management

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Good communication skills and the confidence to deal with different people

• Good attention to detail

• The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

• A practical and proactive approach to problem solving

• The ability to work as part of a wider project team

• A willingness to learn and take responsibility

• A full UK driving licence would be beneficial

Previous experience within construction, retail fit-out or refurbishment would be beneficial but is not essential.

Full training will be provided, making this a genuine opportunity for a graduate to join an established contractor and develop into a Project Manager.

What you will be doing with your experience

You will initially work closely with experienced Project Managers, gaining an understanding of how projects are planned, managed and delivered from start to finish.

As you develop, you will become increasingly involved in the day‑to‑day management of retail fit‑out and refurbishment projects for major clients across the UK.

Your role will include:

• Supporting Project Managers with the delivery of live construction projects

• Assisting with project planning and programme management

• Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and site teams

• Attending site meetings and project progress meetings

• Helping to monitor project progress, quality and programme

• Assisting with the preparation of project documentation and reports

• Liaising with clients, subcontractors and other project stakeholders

• Supporting the management of variations and changes to the works

• Helping to identify and resolve project issues

• Monitoring health and safety and ensuring site requirements are being followed

• Working closely with the commercial team to understand project costs and financial performance

• Developing an understanding of construction programmes, contracts and project delivery

• Travelling to sites across the UK as required

As your experience develops, you will be given increasing responsibility and the opportunity to progress towards managing your own projects.

You will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from initial planning and mobilisation through to construction, handover and completion.

With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued growth across its retail division, they are now looking to bring a Graduate Project Manager into their project delivery team.

You will be working alongside experienced Project Managers and construction professionals who will invest time in your development and give you genuine exposure to live projects.

This is not an opportunity where you will simply be given a list of tasks and left to get on with it. You will have experienced people around you who can teach you how projects are actually delivered and give you increasing responsibility as you develop.
